How to Pack for 2 Weeks in Australia Without Checking a Bag
I’m going to redefine FOMO here: Fear Of Missing Our Luggage. Well, I guess that technically makes it FOMOL, but you get the picture. My husband and I have horror stories of luggage lost, never to be seen again, or to be seen again far too late. Thus, we’ve vowed never to check another bag (on purpose) so long as we live.
My husband and I went on our honeymoon to Australia and planned to be there for 2 full weeks. We were going to be in major cities, exploring two of Australia’s beautiful Rain Forests, snorkeling through the Great Barrier Reef, and lounging on Bondi Beach. How, exactly, does one pack for so many very different experiences over 2 weeks without checking luggage?
Pack Light
Many of your favorite beach outfits can double as warm weather city outfits, so pick items you can mix and match.
Tops:
Try to keep your tops simple and versatile, with a neutral color palette, so you can make more than one outfit from them. And, since weather can be unpredictable, make sure you have great layering pieces as well. I brought 2 tanks and 2 tees.
Layering:
Depending on where you go on your trip, you’ll want to bring at least one light sweater in the event that it gets a bit chilly.
Bottoms:
I packed two pairs of shorts, one pair of jeans, and one pair of leggings (for zip lining through the Daintree Rain Forest).
Maxi Dresses:
I packed 3 maxi dresses that I knew could be great for bombing around Melbourne as well as wandering the boardwalk post beach.
Footwear:
Try to pack no more than 3 pairs of shoes, and try to pack a combination of form + function into your footwear. Aerosoles absolutely kills it in this arena with their selection of footwear that blends style with comfort. Their super cute shoes are fit to wander all over town without giving your feet too much trouble, allowing you to rock that flowy maxi like a boss.
Life Hack!
Try to stay at a combination of hotels and Airbnbs (or just Airbnbs) so you can make use of a washer and dryer mid way through your trip. This truly saved us and allowed us to repeat outfits without looking (or smelling) dirty.
